A house tour with India Knight
As the author, journalist and Substack No 1 puts her house on the market, Mad About The House is invited for a virtual tour – and you get to come along too. Plus, she shares her decorating secrets.
Now while we’re only going on a virtual tour of India’s house, which is hidden deep in the Suffolk countryside, we did have lunch together last week and I was able to ask her about her decorating process, her interior style – and naturally, as she sat opposite me wearing a leopard-print dress with red trainers, if she dresses like she decorates.
And so in the words of Through the Keyhole’s original host Loyd Grossman, the clues to “who lives in a house like this?” are right there. It grabs you from the outside, with its pretty plaster pink walls and then that sock of electric green that raises its quizzical eyebrow over the door. If this is kerb appeal (despite the fact that this house is miles from anything remotely resembling a kerb) then let’s all take note of how to do it.
As we picked at salad and sipped alcohol-free cocktails in a very “ladies who lunch” kind of way, but actually so busy chatting we kept forgetting to pick up our forks, the photos from the previous week’s shoot came in, along with a preview of the agent’s listing.
For someone who has been writing about herself and her home for years, India was surprisingly nervous, but it was clear that Inigo had done what it is known for – created a beautiful magazine-style portfolio that draws in not just those who want to sell their houses, but many who are just there for the inspiration. And inspiration is what India does in spades.
