Design Decoded: The Househunter
A virtual stroll around a real-life house so that we can see how the owner's design choices might provide inspiration and ideas for our own places and spaces.
This week we’re off to Kensal Rise in north-west London – and while 6,000 sq ft of converted warehouse costing nearly £8m might not feel like it has any relevance to you (unless I’m very much underestimating who I’m writing for) you are wrong, because there’s always something to take from every property.
Let’s start in the kitchen (a very good place to start… there’s a song in there somewhere) as we’ve all got one, even if it’s not as big as this. The first point is that the new kitchen trend (and remember, if you read my piece on trends you can either find this interesting or move on calmly) is for stainless steel. I say this not so you can jump on bandwagons, but so that a) if you have been struggling to find one, it will probably get easier over the next couple of years, and b) have you looked at Ikea recently? The Varsta range is utterly brilliant: check out those expensive-looking long handles. And that’s how you can take inspiration from an £8m house.
