Design Decoded: The Househunter
Come with me on a virtual stroll around this Georgian house in Leicester and see what inspiration we can take for our own places and spaces.
Look at this fabulous townhouse - the pizza delivery chap would have no trouble finding this one. Once the home of clockmaker Edward Thomas Loseby (whose work can still be seen on the city’s clocktower) this Georgian property has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dressing room, a study and a spacious utility and it’s on the market for £750,000 with Inigo. Fancy a look?
Typically for the period the front door is slightly raised and with the addition (and removal) of a few walls the interior remains largely as it would have been when it was built. The original sash windows have been replaced with heritage approved versions and, where possible, the owners have left a clear distinction between old and new, which is, generally speaking the way to go rather than pretending it’s original by faking it.
Let’s start with the kitchen at the back.
The rest of this post is for paid subscribers only. Do upgrade at the link if you want to see the rest of the house and decode its design. There’s plenty more coming up this month as well, including an interview with ex-Vogue director of fashion Lucinda Chambers and a tour of my old house with a breakdown of all the design decisions we made.
