Did you know the police HQ here is home to a fresco by Augusto Giacometti that's one of the most important works of art in the entire city?

I am perhaps fortunate (or just law-abiding) enough that I haven’t visited (m)any police stations in my life. I did get taken aside 35 years ago* by the local policeman on the island of Gorée in Senegal for breaking a curfew, but it was all quite amicable and I was mostly flattered to be told that “as a resident” I should have known better. Anyway I digress. To Zurich.

This building used to be the city’s orphanage, and when it was decided it should become the police HQ, what was once the cellar became a vaulted entrance hall.
