NEW for 2026: Design Consultations
Available as part of a Founding Membership and then available to buy in blocks of five, eight, or 10 hours – with the price reducing, the more hours you buy.
Design consultations used to be a core part of my business back in the early days of the blog. They grew out of readers’ questions, and I would visit for two or three hours and then produce a detailed PDF of links, ideas and sources. But I was always limited by location – this was before the magic of Zoom – and eventually I stopped doing them altogether. But times have changed, the tech has improved, and we have all got used to the idea of chatting on screen, so I’m bringing them back.
Paid subscribers will already be familiar with my monthly Drop-in Design Clinic, where I answer as many questions as I can while trying to include general advice to make it as relevant to as many of you as possible.
My Founding Membership tier offers you a 1:1 hour long consult and access to everything on this site for a year, and I’m thrilled that so many of you have chosen to take that route. However, I have several clients who have wanted to continue the conversation to work together in more detail.
So I have come up with a plan. A tiered system of fees based around the number of hours you might wish to book. As I write I am currently consulting on properties in Mallorca, Cape Cod and Umbria.
If you would like help with your own project, whether it’s one room or a whole building, then either message me or leave a comment at the end of this post and we can chat.
If you would just like access to all my posts, which offer inspiration and information on a huge range of subjects, then you can always become a paid subscriber for £7 a month or £75 a year. Hit the button and join the community.
“This one-on-one experience has made all the difference. Somehow sharing this process with Kate has made my home more mine: more thoughtful, more intentional, more fun.”
So what do you get:
£350 buys you a Founding Membership, with a one-hour chat. This will also give you the keys to the archive and all my weekly posts, which number more than 400 now.

If you want a deeper dive you can book a block of five hours, and the price falls to £250 an hour. This tends to work best as a couple of two-hour Zoom meetings with about an hour of WhatsApp chat in between (I don’t rigorously time this and tend to err on the side of generosity, but equally please don’t message me at 11pm on a Saturday night as one client repeatedly did – I suspect she wanted to write things down so she didn’t forget them, but as someone who is always by her phone I found it quite stressful) .
A longer Zoom meeting allows us the luxury of bouncing ideas to and fro without clock-watching and means we can reach a better solution for you as ideas will have time to marinate. The WhatsApp means if you see something while you are out and about, then (time zones permitting) I can respond quickly to any instant questions you may have.
“The finished result is a truly collaborative scheme that still feels very much like my own. Having Kate’s guidance and direction has been, without doubt, what made this project such a beautiful success.”

Finally, for 8-10 hours, the price comes down to £225 an hour with, as above, WhatsApp chats thrown in.

The pictures in this post are all galleries of projects I have worked on, including my last and current house, my home in Italy, a high-end rental project in central London, and a hotel in Mallorca. Many other projects have been single rooms, or homes that I have consulted on via Zoom and haven’t got professional pictures for.

In addition to the hotel in Palma, I am currently working with a client in Cape Cod and another in Umbria, in Italy.
Over the next few weeks and months I will be taking a deep dive into these projects showing you the befores as well as the afters, and explaining the starting brief, as well as issues that arose on the way and how we dealt with them.

But first a word from two of my most recent clients:
MARY PAT: “I’m thrilled to speak to the value—and great fun—of working with Kate on my home design projects. I started working with her when my project was well along, sharing floorplans, anchor furniture and fabrics and way too many good ideas.
“She has helped me identify what’s important and edit the rest, understanding how all the pieces fit together. In areas where I felt less confident, such as paint colours and flooring, she’s led the way, developing a colour, materials and visual palette I can rely on when making choices.
“Working with Kate has given me confidence, teaching me how to achieve the layered, comprehensive scheme I didn’t quite know how to do on my own.
“While I came to Kate with a well-developed project, I know she’d be brilliant to work with at any stage. Her expertise in all elements of design, experience with her own homes and many others and vast knowledge of makers and vendors across the industry will make any project better and easier.
“Above all, working with Kate leads to design plans that are personal, reflecting what you love and how you live. It’s been so fun to share ideas back and forth, refining what we like (and don’t) for my home. Kate is flexible and accommodating, willing to take on whatever I’ve brought and running with it. She shares examples of ideas we’ve discussed and products she’s seen, keeping the conversation lively.
“We are fortunate that there are many ways to learn from her. Read her books, take her Create Academy class—even better, join her in Italy! I did it all. But this one-on-one experience has made all the difference. Somehow sharing this process with Kate has made my home more mine: more thoughtful, more intentional, more fun. What could be better than that?”
SUSAN: “I have been working with Kate for around four years. Over the course of that time, we collaborated on turning an iconic old building in Palma de Mallorca into a boutique hotel — Casa Roca, the majority of which was done remotely via video calls, with a few site visits along the way.
“While I have always had a passion for interior design, and have completed many smaller projects, this 12-bedroom hotel felt like a completely different challenge and I didn’t know where to start. Kate created the initial colour scheme, which gave the project its direction, and from there we collaborated closely. I would run ideas past Kate and she would confidently say yes or no, always offering an alternative solution when needed.
“The finished result is a truly collaborative scheme that still feels very much like my own. Having Kate’s guidance and direction has been, without doubt, what made this project such a beautiful success.”
As always, however you choose to show up makes me happy, whether it’s following along for the free posts or signing up for a monthly or annual subscription.

Morning Kate, can I clarify something (mornings are never my forte, let alone Monday mornings!)?
I have been a paid subscriber of yours for over a year but not a founder member. In order to have an hours consultation with you about my hall, would it be best to upgrade to founders, pay a flat fee or get myself organised enough to join your live drop in sessions and ask a question?
Apologies if I am asking the obvious.
Thank you for your fab Substack.
Regards
Annie
Might have to upgrade to founder member. I have learnt so much invaluable info from you already - your newsletters, (hilarious) podcast and now Substack - but would definitely appreciate a deep-dive with my house renovation! A few areas I'm stumped... Anyway, belated happy new year and thanks!
