I’m excited to launch this series on Substack as it’s a popular post that began over on the blog. The idea, for those who are new to it, is that we look at a great house that is for sale that week (I have tended to stick to the UK but perhaps now we can be more international) and we look at the decor and see how it can provide inspiration for our own places and spaces.
A key point to note is that it’s not about the money - this is not a discussion about property prices - but the chance to see inside a real home that has been decorated by, and for, real people rather than a perfectly styled magazine shoot or even an AI generated image (and we’re all seeing more of those these days).
It can be so helpful to see how other people have coped with tricky architectural features- small rooms, sloping ceilings, awkward beams and so on in real life. Magazines have a tendency to photoshop out the bits they don’t like which isn’t really helpful.
