This is a topic that comes up frequently and it’s not always a mistake (although we all make those) but sometimes it’s about having to live with something that you don’t like or can’t change either because of budget constraints or perhaps because the property is rented and the landlord won’t allow it.

The last flat we rented (before buying) had a strict no pictures on the walls policy and if command strips had been invented nearly 25 years ago we certainly hadn’t heard of them, so there was nothing we could do about that.
