Thanks for the tips! Can I respectfully disagree, a loo isnt just a loo-what about Japanese/smart toilets? Perhaps more function over form, BUT they provide a great function. Would it be possible to recommend a few?
I can recommend the Toto Washlet Sw3084T40. We recently installed two of these Japanese bidet seats in our home. We decided on the bidet seats to modify the exhibiting toilets versus built in bidet toilets with the reasoning that if a part broke on a standard toilet, it would be easier to repair versus having a specialty toilet. The upside of having the bidet built in is a sleaker look, but they’ve come along way with the bidet seats in that department. You will need access to electricity near the toilet for the bidet to function. We had an electrician install outlets in an unobtrusive spot behinds the toilets. Happy to answer additional questions on the topic.
Thanks very much for your comment, that is indeed very interesting and helpful. Yes, I definitely have more questions-how easy were they to source and did you need a specific electrician/plumber to install them or are they now familiar enough devices to install?
I’m in the U.S., and I sourced the seats easily via Amazon after doing a lot of research on various brands. Toto is the brand to beat and a leader in bidets. Be sure to measure the circumference of the seat of your toilet since this will determine the correct size Toto bidet.
A licensed electrician should not have any difficulty adding an outlet for the bidet. For planning purposes as well as aesthetics, make sure that the outlet is exactly where you want it and ensure that the bidet cord reaches from the seat to the outlet.
My husband who is somewhat handy (depends on the project) installed the seats without difficulty once the electrician wired the outlets. If you are not handy though, this is something you could hire a handyman or task rabbit to do if you don’t feel comfortable.
Hope this helps, and please ask any additional questions !
Also love India and “Darling”. I’m very wary of re-writes generally and “The Pursuit of Love” is for sure in my all-time top 5 but it is utterly brilliant. Can’t stop recommending it.
Also - Kate, if you like those series, you may also like Susan Hill Simon Serrailler series. You have to read them in order but they are like Ellie Griffiths - a detective story wrapped in an ongoing series about a family.
If anyone can let us know which of the 11 pages that white shirt can be found please reply here for me. I couldn't find it.
Grrr I think it might have sold out. Will look for another x
I could not either.
So much to love in this post, I kept shouting "Yes!" at my screen.
I’m so pleased. Thank you x

I know very little about them I’m afraid. I’ve used the odd one in a hotel but not enough to recommend any.

Also, how easy are they to install onto any "regular" toilet?
